Once WordPress installs, hold onto your login information. You will need 3 things:
1. WordPress Login URL
Your WordPress login URL will always be yourdomain.com/wp-admin. While your password is a computer generated code, you will be able to change this in the future. From here, simply go to your wordpress login area and enter in your username and password. That’s it! Simple as that. And when you visit your site, you should see the default WordPress 2014 theme installed on your site. In the next video, you will learn about the WordPress Dashboard and how to customize your wordpress website.
The video series as a whole will walk you through setting up a WordPress website, simply and easily.
Also in the previous lesson, we learned the website basics. We learned what exactly you need to start any new website. And we actually looked at why we are using word press and what it is going to be used for. And we also looked at how to actually start a hosting account and we did that with host gaters and if you haven’t done that already, be sure to go back to the first lesson.
But in this lesson, we are going to be looking at how to install word press. Before we actually do that, we are going to be talking about the C panel because the C panel will allow us to install word press much easier and it also has a lot of functionalities that we can use.
So in order to access the C panel we are going to go back to our email. Our original email was signed up for a host gate. We should have got an email in about 5 to 10 minutes. And it should have given us a couple of things. Our C panel url, our username, our password and our name service.
And for now, the first thing that we need are the first three, which was our C panel, our username and our password. Just go and find the C panel url. It should be something like gator and then a number dot hostgator dot com. And you are going to find your username and your password.
Just going to enter that in and you are just going to log in. so now we are in something called C panel. It’s also know as you control panel. And the control panel really has a lot of functionalities. In addition to allowing you to install word press very simply, it also has a lot functionality that we will need in the future when we have to manage our website.
And I will talk about a couple of those things very briefly right now, we will see that probably in the future later. The first being your special offers. The special offers, really what they are is that they provide you coupons. Coupons for stuff like Google ad words, yahoo ads, yellow pages, and stuff like that.
So if you have ever wanted to grow your business or if you wanted to grow traffic or gain traffic to your website, those are somethings that are very useful and they provide you, like in our case, we have a 100$ Google ad words coupon.
So that allows us to have a 100$ with the Google ad words credit. So it’s just good. Because they are coupons, you have already paid for the hosting account, so that’s a good place to look. If you do need coupons in the future for anything website related.
The next being your live chat support. That’s something that you definitely need to know and to use because if you ever have any technical difficulties, mainly with the hosting itself, if you ever have any questions about your billing or your sales or any technical support, you can definitely just click on that button. It will pop in the live chat and they are very responsive with that.
The next thing we will be talking about is your email. The email is if you ever want to set up an email, for example, in our case like contact at wpforalltv dot com. Say we wanted to set that up. We would just do that in the email account right there. And it makes your life a lot easier.
The next one which is probably the most important is our file manager. And the file manager is a FTP client. It’s like a FTP client where, what a FTP client is, it allows you to upload and also download files or documents to or from your website. It is very useful.
Say you want to upload a pdf. Say you want to install some theme manually. If you have any error or any bug in a code that you added and you want to delete that, you can do that in the file manager right there.
And the next thing that we are going to be looking at is the domains. The domains, really, it is only useful in the future when you have multiple websites. In our case we only have one website, so it is probably not going to be useful right now but in the future when we have multiple websites, that’s really when we will use that functionality. And it is very important. But we will save that for the future.
And the final thing is quick install. And that’s what we are actually going to use in this lesson. So we are just going to click on that. And to talk very briefly about what actually quick install is, it’s a one click install for any type of web design platform or software. And we will that there is stuff like word press, there is drupal, there is joomla, there are quite a few different web design platforms that we can use.
In our case we are going to be using word press. So we are just going to click on that. And then we are going to press continue. And so what we are going to do here is, we will see a drop down menu and for our case and probably for your case as well, it’s that you are going to see one domain name and that’s simply because we have only registered one domain name with our hosting account and so we are going to see that right there as wpforalltv dot com, the one that we registered in the past.
And so now you are just going to enter your information right here. After you have actually entered in all your information, all you are going to do is click install now. And after about 20 seconds or so, you are going to see that it’s complete with a 100 percent and the congratulations. And so now what we are going to do is that we are going to hold on to a couple of pieces of information. And we are going to see the admin area where is the url which was wpforalltv dot com slash wp das admin and our username and our password.
And these three things are going to allow us to access something called our word press dashboard or backend of word press and that’s going to be what we are going to use to edit our word press website.
For now what I wanted to do. I wanted to check to make sure word press did in fact install. And this is a good practise after any step, that you do or any change that you make into your website is to always check before and after, what happened.
And so before this, I just searched in the URL of the website wpforalltv dot com in the address bar above and we would see something like this. It would be very similar if you looked at your website before showing that host gateway was in fact installed but nothing was on your website.
But after we install word press, when you refresh the website, we are going to see something more like this. Right? And this should indicate that yes, word press has in fact installed. And we are going to see hello world which is indicative of any programming language, indicative of word press as well. And we are going to see that default theme was in fact installed onto your website.
But it is good practise to, after every step that you make, to actually check to make sure because if you ever run into a problem in the future, and you made a lot of changes, you won’t actually know that which change caused that problem if you don’t check after each step.
So it’s always good to have that practise in the start.
So in the next lesson we are actually going to be looking at, how to access our backend of word press and how to actually work with our dashboard.
